Spiritual Gifts and Worship V - Giving

We’ve come to a crucial, and indeed critical component in the spiritual gifts discussion.  Without those gifted in the area of Giving, the modern church simply would fall apart.  While it is important to note that all of us are called to give generously and cheerfully according to how we’ve been blessed, there are some individuals within the church body that are particulary adept at seeing a need and meeting it.

People who have this spiritual gift of generosity are usually blessed by God with the ability to make a good deal of money in their careers.  They typically have a good business sense, and this skill causes them to prosper.  As a result, they are able to financially support those in need in tangible financial ways.  People with this gift also tend to give of their time to the ministry, but the Scriptural connotation of this gift has to do specifically with finances.

How in the world would our worship ministries even exist without Spirit-filled Givers?  Givers aide the worship ministry by providing the funding for lights and mixers and mics and guitars.  People with this gift provide the money with no strings attached, which provides the worship leadership with tremendous flexibility and freedom.  Believe me, I’ve been involved in worship ministry where money was always a factor, and it can weigh tremendously heavy on a worship leader’s mind, and ultimately it hinders his ability to lead worship.

One thing that we must allow for those gifted in this area is opportunity to give.  Christianity has gotten so commercialized in many areas that many of us have tried to minimize the importance of giving in our services.  We don’t want to appear as if we’re “out for money,” but in trying to correct this problem, the pendulum swings too far the other way.  We must not hesitate to make needs known to our church, and if someone gives spontaneaously out of a leading from the Spirit, we should not refuse that gift.
